Derek Prince: Foundational Truths for Christian Living (previously titled: Foundation Series)

Note: This is not a free review copy. My parents bought this some 20 years earlier, and I have read it as well. Although I’ve read the Hungarian version, rest assured the English is exactly the same.

There is a reason why I put this review first. This book is one of the most important to read after the Bible and I’ll tell you why. I have read this book multiple times and you should too. Mr. Prince deals with the foundational teachings of Christianity in this one. These can be found in Hebrews 6:1-2. He makes a strong case for their importance. It’s true that the extensiveness and size of the foundation will determine the potential size of the house built on it. Without proper foundations a house will collapse. Prince expounds these 6 teachings in a very clear and understandable, yet comprehensive manner.

Although I have seen many books titled something like ‘Foundational Christian Truths’ few of them did contain all those which are indeed foundational. Mostly these were a mixture of foundational and non-foundational teachings.

Prince once again does a great job. He provides a lot of Scriptures. Eventually there are very few pages which don’t include at least 1 or 2 Bible verses and some have a lot more than that. His interpretations are in agreement with the full revelation of the Bible, except maybe for some very few (and hard-to-notice) mistakes. This book is about 550 pages and if I said that there are maybe 15 small theological mistakes (all of them not exceeding a few sentences) then I would say too much. Don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater. What you must understand is: these are foundational teachings. Every other teaching is built upon these. If you don’t have these right prepare for the collapse of the building!

I recommend this book especially to the new Christian. And I highly recommend it to every Christian. Many people who were Christians for 20-30 years found plenty of new understanding from this book. I’ve exeperienced that many of them lack proper scriptural fundation despite being Christians for a long time. Their defeated lives are the testament to that. Don’t be that one!

If you have any other questions about this book, please let me know. Will you get this book? Why yes or why not?
